2D Character Artist / Art Director 

Are you an experienced character artist looking for adventure and a chance to further develop your skills? Does living working and living in Dubai sound appealing to you? Dicesol Animation is a brand-new animation studio located in Dubai, and we are looking for a passionate artist who can serve as both a 2D character artist and art director for animation who has a high amount of experience in character design, and style development. They must demonstrate a strong understanding of color theory, perspective, character design, light, and human anatomy.  Some experience with 2D animation is also required to ensure a smooth collaborative workflow between illustrator and animator. A main role will be aiding the creative director in choosing an art style, designing style frames and developing style guides for the rest of the team. You will have plenty of room to develop your skills and take ownership for the final product as our team will be around five members to begin with. Here you will be given the freedom to use your talents and passion to add your own personal touch to each film. We need someone who won’t quit until they are proud of their product. Someone willing to take ownership to ensure that the final product is exceptional. Someone who has a desire to be along in creating some compelling and inspiring animation films.

​Responsibilities ​​ 

• Design unique and interesting characters  
• Develop style guides 
• Direct coworkers in following style guides 
• Create style frames 
• Illustrate characters from various perspectives/angles and lighting situations 

• Read storyboards and understand what is required  
• Contribute positively to the overall quality of the animation with constructive criticism and innovative ideas  
• Complete tasks in a timely manner 

Requirements 

• Proven experience as an illustrator 3+ years (recommendation from previous employers and/or freelancing profile) 
• Showreel/portfolio demonstrating your style and abilities. Please attach your showreel/portfolio to your application 
• Ability to make conscious style choices  
• Ability to read a storyboard 
• Ability to advise and direct others  

• Strong digital illustration skills and visual knowledge of human anatomy 
• Strong understanding of light, texturing and color theory 
• Strong understanding of perspective 
• Proficient in Ps, Ai or other illustrating programs  
• Ability to read a storyboard  

• Ability to illustrate characters in a realistic yet stylized way  
• Comfortable working with deadlines and budget restrictions 
• Teamwork and excellent communication skills 
• Good understanding of cameras, cinematography, and composition 
• Ability to take ownership of a project and work independently 

A perfect candidate could also have: 

• Previous experience in an animation studio as an art director 
• High amount of experience in animation
