Acamar Films – Posted by Julie-Anne Mackett London, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

Acamar Films

Acamar Films is an award-winning television production and distribution company with a growing international mission to create iconic content. Founded in 2005, Acamar Films is the creator of the hit pre-school series ‘Bing’. Since its debut on the BBC in 2014, Acamar’s hit pre-school series Bing has gone on to achieve considerable international success, with highlights including winning an International Emmy and Writers Guild Award as well as being a BAFTA nominee.

We are an independent creative studio headquartered in Camden, London and we love what we do. Our mission is to “move and delight” audiences worldwide. We are truly dedicated to serving the needs of young children in all that we do.

This is a hugely exciting time to join Acamar Films, with plans to take its proven track record for building enduring audiences to the USA, South America and Asia.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, highly proficient Senior Maya Generalist who can deliver creative talent, technical expertise – and, crucially, a strong engagement with our project. Part of this role will involve providing a supervisory lead for more Junior Maya Generalists to ensure that their work is creative, efficiently handled and delivered on-schedule.

You will work closely with the Head of 3D/Business Creative to plan and implement creative output from Maya within brand guidelines and deliver best in class assets to the business.

What you’ll do

You will work with a pre-built Maya asset base constructed by our production partner Brown Bag Films. This consists of the following:

  • Rigged character models
  • External/internal environments and associated props
  • All associated controls – textures/surface maps/lights/shaders etc
  • Continually review processes, hardware and Software and recommend to the business any upgrades that are needed, working closely with the Head of IT
  • Be proactive with suggestions and solutions to improve assets to the business
  • Work closely with the Acamar team to check and approve incoming files from production partners for future series.
  • Multiple episode files composed with the aforementioned elements with animation and render layers.
  • Asset base currently renders with Mental Ray so you must have solid technical experience of dealing with this engine.

Primary activity using asset base:

  • Rendering single frames from episodes to create stills – delivered either layered or composite dependent on requirements.
  • Creating custom character poses (solo or groups). These may be required to be positioned within an associated environment.
  • Addressing technical asset base/rendering issues or more generalised
  • Maya/Mental Ray difficulties.
  • Occasional rendering of short animation sequences from episode files.
  • Occasional briefs for creation of customised solo character animation with requirement to generate sequence referencing supplied audio (i.e. a character speaking to camera).
  • Delivered assets will be used for a variety of projects not limited to video production, digital content, product development and marketing.
