UWE’s Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education has a strong reputation for highly successful practice-based, professionally focused UG and PG programmes, run in conjunction with outstanding industry partners, such as Aardman Animations and the BBC.

This post offers the opportunity to be part of UWE’s thriving, vibrant and collaborative animation community.  Our highly successful BA and MA Animation programmes are in the UK’s top three courses in the 2020 Guardian League tables for Film Production and Photography.   Student work has won regional and national Royal Television Society animated film awards for many years.

Our BA Animation programme attracts highly motivated students on the basis of our excellent reputation for bespoke teaching across the range of animation processes.  The course produces industry-ready graduates, with excellent animation craft skills and the ability to develop creative and commercial ideas as well as work in production.

Our MA Animation programme is ScreenSkills accredited in recognition of its excellent standards of industry relevance, its close connections to the animation industry and its consistent success in preparing students for a professional career in the creative industries.

You will be working in our Animation studios, comprising 2D digital, 2D drawn, 3D CGI and stop motion labs and production studios – all part of a recent £7m investment in film production facilities in City Campus at Bower Ashton.

You will be working alongside an experienced team of academic and technical instructors, who have considerable industry experience and in a department with facilities that encompass a breadth of animation output.  You will be a team player, thrive in a demanding yet rewarding environment and will make an enthusiastic contribution to the collegiate life of the University.

  • You are an experienced 2D animator with excellent knowledge of software such as Toon Boom Harmony, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, TVPaint, Adobe Animate, and Adobe After Effects.
  • You are a motivated, passionate animator/educator with a desire to innovate, mentor and develop talent in young adults.
  • Working within the Animation team, you will contribute to managing and developing the 2D department. You are proactive in developing the latest animation applications, methods and artistic expression, to drive the department forwards.
  • You have demonstrable experience in an education or training context and able to design and deliver engaging learning opportunities for students.
  • You will be keen to engage in CPD and further develop teaching skills with UWE.
