Full-Time Rigging Supervisor

Job Description


WildBrain is looking for a Rigging Supervisor to join our Vancouver studio for a feature quality episodic production. We can’t say what it is yet, but it is an action oriented global franchise with beloved characters! In this role, you will be responsible for establishing workflows, managing the rigging team, and training and tasking artists. You will work closely with the Animation Director, Modeling Supervisor, CG supervisor and various other teams to successfully meet the show’s technical and creative needs.

We are currently working virtually because of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time our hiring teams are ready to support interviews via video conferencing, and we are enabling artists to work from home until the studio can reopen. We’d love to hear from you! #stayhomestaysafe!


Oversee the daily operations of project rigging TDs
Rig 3D assets (characters, props, sets, etc.) to achieve the intended animation performance
Troubleshoot, maintain and improve rigs in production, while ensuring their stability for the animation team
Research and recommend techniques and ideas to the studios rigging supervisor to improve production
Collaborate closely with animation, modelling and shading to best achieve the intended animation performance requirements
Work closely with the Pipeline team to improve rigging technology
Communicate and work closely with the Animation Director and Leads, CG Supervisor, Modeling Supervisor, and the pipeline team to ensure an efficient and creative production
Lead the team to deliver the show needs on time and to the expected quality standards
Oversee the daily activities, leading the department, and establishing best practice workflows and guidelines for the team
Review, debug and improve other team members’ assets, workflows and techniques
Meet production deadlines and maintain regular communication with the production team
Implement workflow, scripts and tools as needed
Anticipating, communicating, and troubleshooting any creative or technical issues
Organize training for new employees as well as refresher sessions for existing team members in order to keep them up to date with new tools and technics
Work closely with management to guide artists overall professional development by providing performance feedback, mentoring, resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale within the team
Assist the Artist Management and Recruiting departments in the the crew selection process
Be a positive and creative force in building a healthy work and team culture
Communicate with other supervisor and team leads on concerns and production issues ahead of time

5+ years of experience in episodic animation, or Feature Animation
2+ years Supervisory experience in Rigging on an Animated Feature film or Feature Quality Episodic production
Demonstrated knowledge and technical skills relating to character rigging and animation
Solid understanding of animation process and needs
Good understanding of anatomy and articulation
Knowledge in Python
Excellent knowledge in Maya
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
Excellent at communicating creative and technical thoughts and ideas in a positive, professional manner
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
Encouraging attitude towards feedback and new initiatives


Knowledge in nCloth, nHair, xGen or other simulation systems is a benefit
Experience with Shotgun and RV would be helpful
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Computer Animation, or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
Experience in episodic production methodologies is a benefit
