Full-Time Rigging Supervisor

Under the supervision of the Production Director and the CG Supervisor, the rigging Supervisor is responsible for managing and guiding the rigging team. They must provide their team with the mentorship and training necessary in order to fulfill specific goals. They are responsible for the entire rigging process. Furthermore, the rigging Supervisor must bring and implement their expertise on both the artistic and the technical fronts in every project.
MANAGEMENT (25%) :
Create, manage, and follow scheduling and production quotas as per the coordination team;
Assist to and actively participate in client meetings;
Assign, supervise, and go over the rigging team’s work;
Organise and head team meetings;
Inform their team of any changes or news concerning projects;
Train and support their team during production;
Give feedback to every artist on their performance;
Actively participate in the selection of new artists;
Support and facilitate onboarding for new employees;
Assist and actively participate to supervisor meetings;
Execute any related tasks as assigned by management.
PRODUCTION (75%) :
Before and during production: Develop the department’s pipeline tools in collaboration with the R&D Director, the CG Supervisor, and the other Supervisors;
Edit the paperwork necessary for the pipeline build;
Develop and improve procedures and tools to help the production;
Work closely with the Supervisors of other departments to insure a smooth transition to animation, rendering, etc. and support the team during production;
Prepare the guides and rules to be followed by the rigging team;
Anticipate, analyze, and find solutions to potential and actual technical issues;
Elaborate and manage the rigging process (nomenclature, references, necessary resources, methodologies, tools, deadlines, tasks, etc.);
Keep track of their team’s work for uniformity;
Keep any paperwork going to the rigging team or to other Supervisors up-to-date;
Act as the main point of contact during inter-departmental exchanges;
Make sure that they are available to answer questions from their team and from the other departments.
College degree in 2D/3D infographics, graphic design, or visual arts;
At least five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in rigging, preferably on feature-length animation films;
At least three (3) years of experience as a rigging Supervisor;
Experience working with PYTHON and the various Maya APIs (cmds, pymel, OpenMaya)
Experience working with the interface libraries PySide and/or PyQt;
Knowing C++ is a plus;
Have great knowledge of anatomy and facial rigging;
Have mastered Maya rigging tools, including the creation of joints and skeletons, skinning and weighting, IK configuration, blendshapes and deformers, and dependency knots;
Be comfortable in a Linux/Unix environment;
Have a good knowledge of French or English, both written and spoken;
Be able to manage a team;
Be able to train and guide members of their team;
Knowing an asset manager like Shotgun is a plus;
Have a Canadian citizenship or a permanent resident status in Canada and be available to work in Montreal, Quebec.
