Full-Time Lighting Pipeline TD

Job Description

Blur is looking for an experienced Lighting Pipeline TD with a strong passion for exploring and experimenting with new technologies. This person would collaborate with our Pipeline and Scene Assembly Departments to develop robust workflows and tools for our CG artists.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Scene Assembly to design, prioritize and build tools that empower our artists and minimize the technical hurdles of creation.
  • Design and build tools & workflows to evolve the Scene Assembly pipeline in the near future.
  • Develop scripts and maintain tools for our current pipeline during our transition to a more modern DCC toolset (addressing challenges such as scene optimization, workflow automation, etc.)
  • Work with Pipeline to address and solve daily artist submitted tickets.
  • Work with Scene Assembly Leads and Scene Assemblers to identify needs for new lighting and shot production tools & processes (ranging from issues with existing tools and processes as well as brainstorming on alternative future workflows.)
  • Work with IT and Head of CG to plan and validate software deployment in the department (ranging from Blur proprietary tools to third-party DCCs and plugins)
  • Interface with third-party developers to pass along bugs, request features and test/explore new versions on behalf of the Scene Assembly Department.
  • Train artists on use of new features and tools that you help to develop and implement.
  • Maintain project and tool specific documentation.
  • Work closely with Pipeline to implement durable solutions to workflow issues
  • Solid understanding of computer graphics workflows.
  • Serious interest in USD, with an eagerness to help guide the studio’s transition into this workflow paradigm.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows systems.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of 3D content creation packages (Maya, Houdini, Katana, 3D Studio Max and Nuke).
  • Experience with aspects of computer graphics including scene assembly, shaders, lighting, and rendering.
  • Experience with a variety of rendering solutions including: VRay, Arnold, & Renderman. Including a deep understanding of how renderers work, as well as optimization.
  • Extensive experience with Python
  • Ability to analyze and connect individual requests to formulate broader solutions.
  • Current authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Knowledge of programming patterns and a strong affinity for design.
  • Ability to develop and design tools for both Houdini and Katana
  • Familiarity with code management and deployment solutions (Git, Pip).
  • Experience working with render farms (Deadline, Qube, Tractor).
