Full-Time HR Manager – LONDON-BASED

This is a lead role in a high growth feature animation studio with the opportunity to develop into a senior management position. The HR Manager will be responsible for ongoing staffing and HR needs, and will assist with the recruitment of all roles, including artists and talent. You should have experience in film, TV, or other broadcast media, and of working within a successful start-up organisation. You will possess a well-rounded HR background and have a proven track record of leading HR effectively. This role will work in conjunction with the Operations and Culture Manager and the Chief Business Officer to provide statutory oversight on HR.
1. HR & Employee Engagement
Create an environment of positive employee relations by respecting confidentiality, establishing trust and credibility, being seen by employees as approachable and fair as well as balancing business needs with employee needs.
Respond to general HR related enquiries for all staff: you will be the point of contact for the day-to-day questions and issues that arise from employees, including the interpretation of HR policies, practices and procedures to employees and managers.
Promote and drive key HR initiatives across departments, including staffing, performance management, training and development, rewards & recognition, organisational effectiveness and employee communication.
Work with department managers and staff to establish and maintain a positive work environment which encourages the full use of diverse talents and abilities. Ensure that managers are actively communicating with their teams and monitoring any departmental activity.
Prepare and drive an effective on-boarding and employee life cycle process, preparing and carrying out inductions for new starters, managing the probation review process, introducing an appraisal system, contract review process, and annual salary reviews, through to managing the leaver process.
2. HR Administration
Manage all HR administration. You will update the internal HR database and HR Toolkit, update starters and leavers, archive personnel files and contract extensions, and manage a sickness absence process.
Ensure that the Accounts Department are updated with any salary changes, and starters and leavers information.
Log all absence including sickness, holiday, unpaid leave, compassionate leave, and TOIL, escalating any issues to Departmental Managers where appropriate.
Respond to all reference enquiries for current and ex-employees.
Ensure all employee files are maintained.
Compile salary benchmark reports, holiday and sickness reports, and assist the Department Managers in managing high sickness/holiday cases. Lead on any staff related projects. Carry out regular HR audits.
Attend regular meetings with Production crew to stay abreast of staffing needs across all productions. Promote and develop the recruitment process, gaining authorisation throughout from different Heads of Department.
Write job descriptions and advertisements, ensuring input and sign off from relevant Heads of Department. Post new jobs to the appropriate websites and understand the Resident Labour Market Test for visa compliance, working with Business Affairs.
Communicate with candidates via email and phone, schedule phone, video, and onsite interviews, ensuring the best candidate experience possible, and making sure that all applicants receive timely updates on their status.
When positions are filled, make sure all applicants receive their final status update and that the position is closed and removed from all posting sites.
Collect and manage candidate referrals. Identify recruitment strategies and ensure diverse candidate slates and top quality candidate selection.
Undertake and support the visa process for new and existing employees with the Business Affairs CoOrdinator.
The right candidate will be approachable, personable, organised and pro-active, and have a positive, can-do attitude. You will be able to represent Locksmith Animation at all levels, have great follow-up communication, superior planning, organisation and problem-solving abilities, and you will thrive in a changeable environment. You will need the ability to see the bigger picture and context of the HR function and to operate accordingly, so an open-minded and flexible approach, and the ability to adapt to the creative environment will be critical. You will need to be able to work across a multi-site scope, so the ability to handle multiple tasks with ease is essential. You will need to build relationships internally and externally and to adjust to change in a positive, productive manner. Confidence in the management of conflicting opinions and manage the diverse personalities within the Company is essential. Minimum 3 years HR experience.
