Job Description

Pop Paper City is looking for a head of layout to join our series team. The series compromises of 52  x 11’ 3D episodes and is distributed by Aardman Animations. We are looking for a team member  that wants to join us for the duration of production.  

SUMMARY: 

The Head of Layout interprets the storyboard and animatics of the project and adapts them into a  3D environment. Directs and manages the layout team, helping guide the department to translate  the artistic vision of the director, working closely with the concept artist and relevant story team. 

They Maintain quality standards for the department, coaching, and mentoring the team to create  work products that exhibit high standards both technically and artistically. 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work with the Director(s), Head of story Editorial, and concept designer to establish the  visual narrative of the series 
  • Responsible for the cinematography, staging and set dressing of the series working with the  head of CG. 
  • Supervision of Layout Artists, including and providing feedback to artists, for both rough  layout and final layout process. 
  • Provide timelines and budget estimates for all aspects of the layout process. Stage every shot and plot the actions that will take place within each scene. 
  • Ensure that all storyboards to be animated are set up properly ensuring continuity throughout  
  • Work with the Head of Story and concept as they translate the boards into 3D space. 
  • Provide and innovate ideas/solutions for the layout process, bringing in new tools and ideas  to bring the concept to life on screen. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum 4 years of experience working as a Layout Artist on animated series or feature  films  
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills. 
  • Sound knowledge of cinematography and editorial principals. 
  • Must be detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize, ensuring all assignments are completed in an  accurate and timely manner. 
  • Must be flexible and able to work in an environment where needs and priorities are subject  to constant revision. 
  • Must be a self-starter with a team player attitude.
