Full-time Faculty of Animation
The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking a full-time faculty member for our Animation Department with the rank dependent on qualifications. The candidate will be an artist, designer, or illustrator who leverages animation to tell stories and will be able to create an environment that supports students to achieve excellence. The candidate should have experience implementing animation in a field outside of the television, film, and game industries.
The department is interested in applicants who have engaged in service towards increasing the participation of individuals from groups historically underrepresented in the animation industry. The faculty member will teach six courses an academic year (3 each semester), contribute to departmental and college service, and maintain an active animation practice. The faculty member will be on a renewable multi-year employment agreement that will begin August 1, 2023.
The CCAD Animation Department is housed in the Cloyd Family Animation Center. Campus facility highlights include: a 15-seat stop motion lab, a drawing classroom, two dedicated Cintiq teaching labs, a Cintiq docking lab, flex space for student projects, faculty offices, a gallery, and a 90 seat screening room with a Christie 4220 DLP 4K Projector and Dolby Atmos 7.1 Surround Sound System. Animation faculty are encouraged to collaborate on both departmental and cross-disciplinary projects. All CCAD faculty have access to a variety of internal funding sources in order to support professional practice (travel, research, projects), including the Griffith Big Project Fund that supports new making and research projects.
A completed Faculty of Animationapplication will require:
- A cover letter that articulates the ways their experience fits the role and includes the following:
- one example of how they created an environment that supported students to achieve excellence.
- one example of how they implemented animation in a field outside of the television, film, and game industries
- a diversity statement outlining their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (an application without a diversity statement will not be considered).
- A CV that includes names/contact details for three references, a link to a demo reel (YouTube or Vimeo), and a curated drawing portfolio (website or PDF).
Faculty of Animation Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required, as is strong professional experience in animation and/or a graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience teaching at the college level is desired, but not required.
