Job Description

 

Position Summary:
As an Illustrator on the EarthXplained team, you will be instrumental in delivering engaging earth science stories for platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. You’ll create impactful illustrations and graphics for our videos, support pre-production workflows through storyboards and visual color keys, and contribute to brand marketing efforts by designing thumbnails and marketing materials that enhance our content’s reach and engagement. A willingness to continually learn about earth science and seek relevant training opportunities will be essential for excelling in this role. Experience working in a collaborative production team with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers is essential.

 

Responsibilities:

• Design compelling illustrations and graphics for earth science stories tailored to social media platforms.
• Collaborate on storyboarding for scripts, creating cohesive visual guides that align with EarthXplained’s narrative goals.
• Develop visual color keys to establish the mood and tone of each project.
• Create attention-grabbing thumbnails and marketing materials to promote EarthXplained’s content and grow brand awareness.
• Ensure all visuals align with brand guidelines and resonate with diverse audiences.
• Adapt and optimize content for different platforms, balancing technical specifications with audience preferences.
• Take initiative in learning about earth science topics we cover, finding relevant training resources to enhance your illustrations.
• Work closely with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers to create cohesive content.
• Manage multiple projects, meeting deadlines and incorporating feedback effectively.

 

Requirements:

• Proven experience as an illustrator or in a similar role with a strong portfolio.
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).
• A creative eye for color, composition, and visual storytelling.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within brand guidelines.
• Willingness to learn about earth science topics and find training opportunities to enhance your role.
• Experience working in a production team, collaborating with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in creating illustrations for animation or motion graphics.
• Familiarity with educational or scientific illustration.
• Experience creating visuals for social media platforms.
• Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Graphic Design, or a related field.
