Job Description

Position Summary:

As an Animator for EarthXplained, you’ll be a driving force behind bringing our earth science stories to life through both 2D and 3D animation. This role calls for a highly creative individual with a deep understanding of animation principles, who can take ideas from concept to fully realized animations. You’ll work closely with the team to incorporate illustrative assets into animatics during pre-production, then build out full-length feature animations designed for platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. In addition, experience in illustration is required to ensure assets align with best animation practices, adding an animator’s eye to the creation process. With a focus on character rigging, 2D animation, and editing, you’ll also be expected to actively learn about the subjects covered in our content and seek relevant training to enhance your role. Experience working in a collaborative production team with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers is essential.

Responsibilities

 

• Conceptualize and develop high-quality 2D and 3D animations, transforming ideas into dynamic visual experiences suited for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
• Collaborate with illustrators to incorporate assets into animatics, supporting the pre-production process.
• Create feature-length animations optimized for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, catering to the unique needs and audience expectations of each platform.
• Execute character rigging, applying a strong understanding of movement and structure to bring characters to life.
• Utilize advanced editing skills to refine animations, ensuring seamless transitions and visual continuity.
• Apply an animator’s eye to ensure illustrative assets are created in line with best animation practices.
• Take initiative in learning about earth science topics covered by EarthXplained, finding training opportunities to expand your expertise.
• Work closely with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers to create cohesive content.
• Manage multiple animation projects simultaneously, meeting production deadlines and incorporating feedback.

Requirements

 

• Proven experience in both 2D and 3D animation, with a strong portfolio.
• Proficiency in animation software (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Blender, etc.).
• Experience with character rigging, 2D animation, video editing, and illustration.
• Strong visual storytelling skills and the ability to conceptualize ideas effectively.
• Experience optimizing animations for platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
• Willingness to learn about earth science topics and pursue relevant training.
• Experience working in a production team, collaborating with directors, animators, illustrators, scriptwriters, and sound designers.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Experience in educational or scientific animation.
• Familiarity with social media content requirements for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
• Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Multimedia Arts, or a related field.
