Our Toronto Studio is looking for a Surfacing Artist to help establish the look and qualities of assets for one of our awesome new productions!

You’ll get to:

  • Work with the Surfacing team to establish the look and qualities of assigned assets, including characters, props, and environments
  • Report to the Surfacing Lead/Supervisor and receive additional direction from Art Director and other members of the Asset team (e.g., Modeling Supervisor) to ensure continuity of the overall look of the Production
  • Ensure that Surfacing files are complete and ready for lighting
  • Create UV’s, Textures, Shaders for models supplied by the Modeling department
  • Maintain file naming convention for all shots that is compatible within Jam Filled Production pipelines
  • Maintain tidiness and organization of working files
  • Keep Surfacing Lead/Supervisor aware of any production problems, and contribute problem-solving ideas to the team
  • Perform additional duties as required

This will be your JAM if you have:

  • 2+ years of previous experience as a Surfacing Artist for an animation studio on a series and/or feature production
  • Strong surfacing/painting skills with an artistic eye for detail
  • Basic understanding of animation styles and techniques
  • Excellent comprehension of animation production for film and/or television
  • Basic understanding of the animation production pipeline as a whole
  • Good problem-solving skills and willingness to contribute to a team environment
  • Strong UV-ing skills
  • Working knowledge of the following: Mental Ray and/or Arnold and/or Renderman as a renderer, Polygonal texturing image maps, Construction of shaders and utilities.
  • Maya, Mari, Photoshop, Mudbox or ZBrush is an asset
