Full-Time 3D Animation Lead

Job Description

Warner Brothers Animation is seeking an Animation Leadfor the highly anticipated “Wings of Fire” animated adaptation, Executive Produced by Ava DuVernay. This will be a high quality and high complexity TV series looking to achieve cinematic quality in both visual style and storytelling. The Animation Leadis responsible for overseeing the animation shot production pipeline. They should have a knowledge of the CG Animation Pipeline and experience working with overseas vendor studios. They will be responsible for helping the vendor studio translate the storyboards into animation and help realize the vision of the Creative Producers.
  • With producers and leads, establishes the movement and animation style of the show.
  • Attends and participates in story and design launch meetings to provide any necessary animation notes or insights.
  • Attends locked story reviews to provide any final timing notes to editors and directors.
  • Along with Supervising Directors and Episodic Directors and if requested, reviews storyboard action maps for layout and animation continuity.
  • Attends and provides feedback in CG Layout Reviews.
  • Creates animation style guides and standards for overseas studios to follow.
  • Has the ability to animate character cycles as reference for overseas studios if needed.
  • Reviews final designs and asset models for animation/ rigging concerns if needed.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on asset rigs for overseas vendor.
  • Completes episodic crowd breakdowns, cycles breakdowns and cloth breakdowns when needed for overseas vendor.
  • Reviews and provides timely feedback on crowd, cloth and animation cycles deliveries from vendors.
  • Completes comprehensive animation and launch notes for overseas vendor. The notes can be both written and video notes.
  • Attends pre animation kickoffs with vendor as well as vendor review meetings when requested.
  • Reviews daily animation deliveries and provides timely feedback to vendor studio.
  • Has the ability to keyframe animate shots internally and perform shot fixes when needed.
  • 4+ Years working in television animation.
  • Knowledge of CG Animation Pipeline is required.
  • Prior leadershipor supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with overseas vendor studios is required.
  • Bachelors Fine Art or Bachelors of Art.
  • Knowledge of Maya required. Knowledge of Blender is a plus.
  • Understands how concepts and turnarounds for characters, props and sets will translate into 3D designs.
  • Understands rigging for CG assets. •Understands and is comfortable with CG Animation vocabulary.
  • Has a strong acting sensibility and ability to translate acting notes into technical feedback vendors will understand.
  • Comfortable providing feedback and constructive criticism when needed.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of production personnel.
  • Must have the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and thrive under pressure.
  • Must be able to work well under time constraints.
  • Ability to function as a team player, collaborate with others to achieve daily workload goals.
  • Demonstrates ability to be proactive and anticipating potential problems before they occur and follows through on every task assigned (i.e. keeping everyone in the loop and up to date on the status of all tasks).
