Job Description

Animation studio Pyjama is looking for a 2D Production Designer to work on the development of Belzebubs (13 x 22 min), a hearty animated comedy series for young adults about a family of black-metal cultists. The series is based on the popular webcomic of the same name by Finnish artist JP Ahonen.

Duration: 2 months, start in May 2023 (part-time arrangement for a longer period possible)

Location: remote / on-site in Turku, Finland / hybrid

The person selected for the role will also be a primary candidate for continuing in a similar role once the series goes into production.

What you’ll be doing

  • work with the series director and the creator of the original comic to bring together a cohesive visual look for the series, while staying true to the spirit and style of the original comic

  • participate in regular meetings with the show’s creative team

  • oversee and participate in the creation of the series’ Main Design Pack

  • creating essential character, background and FX designs, setting a clear visual direction for the show

  • establish technical and artistic guidelines for the production art in relation to budget & schedule

What we need from you

  • 4+ years of experience in 2D animation, with at least 2 previous credits as a production designer/design supervisor/art director or similar role in a 2D animated series or feature

  • the ability to analyze and recreate the elements of a pre-existing style 

  • a strong portfolio of production design art (character and location)

  • fluent spoken and written English

  • in-depth understanding of the production processes of an animated 2D series

  • the ability to clearly communicate and justify creative decisions

  • the ability to accept and process feedback for your work, as well as to provide clear and consistent feedback for other artists

  • fluent in Photoshop & a good understanding of the Toon Boom Harmony rigged 2D pipeline

  • excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • excited about problem-solving
