2D Background Artist (Layout and Paint)

We are an internationally recognized, Emmy Award®-winning studio – in two prominent Canadian cities, Vancouver and Montreal – and the creative force behind top audience hits such as The Dragon Prince, Rick and Morty, Teen Titans Go!, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

What you’ll be doing:

 

  • Assist in the creation of environment layouts and digital painted 2D backgrounds to fit the approved style of the series
  • Maintain the style and execution of the backgrounds as per requirements of the production
  • Create quick iterations for concept art in the various product stages, full colour functional concept, and final painted environment art
  • Provide feedback and solutions to technical and creative issues
  • Work collaboratively to meet production deadlines, ensuring open communication with other managers and team members
  • Actively participate in team/department meetings
  • May mentor entry-level artists by providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that provide for their artistic and professional growth
  • Communicate progress of work to appropriate production staff

What you’ll bring:

 

  • Strong understanding of perspective and the ability to interpret the cinematic qualities of the storyboard.
  • Excellent sense of color theory, painting and Photoshop.
  • Ability to take direction well with a positive attitude.
  • Strong understanding of 2D animation principles
  • Prior experience in 2D animation for background design or layout an asset
  • A positive attitude and dedication to the success of the project

Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada for any employer.

Salary Range: CAD $1,200 – $1,400 / week.

The Salary Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job
