Dog Ears is looking for 2D Background Artist. Dog Ears is an award-winning creative studio based in Derry in the North of Ireland. We create content for kids and bring our stories and characters to life across media and platforms worldwide.

Cartoon Saloon is a four time Academy Award (R), Golden Globe (R), BAFTA and Emmy nominated animation studio based in Kilkenny in the South East of Ireland. Employing over 150 crew, we are currently working on a number of projects in production and in development

About the Show

This new animated TV series is a co-production between Dog Ears and Cartoon Saloon. It is a 2D Toon Boom Production with a uniquely exciting epic tale at the heart. There’s lots of action, adventure and humour throughout with a rich cinematic visual style for audiences aged 8+.

Role

We are looking for Background Artists to come and work with us on our exciting new 2D co-production series with Cartoon Saloon.

Key Responsibilities for 2D Background Artist:

• To create digitally paint detailed backgrounds to the creative standards of the project as advised by the Background Supervisor and Art Director;

• Meet a weekly quota and deadlines as assigned by the Production Crew;

• Ensure all backgrounds closely represent and are true to the style of the Location designs provided;

• Completion of creative and technical revisions as requested by the Background Supervisor in addition to the background quota;

• Adhere to the work flow structure of the project as requested by the Art Director, including a clean and orderly delivery of assets and layers to the animation and compositing teams;

• Work cohesively within a team environment and ensuring high levels of communication at all times; • Adhere to the production tools used for tracking workflow, input and delivery/output of backgrounds;

• Strong communication and ability to work to a verbal or visual brief, flagging in advance any issues that may impact on successful timely delivery of material or shots to Production and the Supervising crew Requirements: What we would like to see from you:

• Solid knowledge of 2D animation workflows;

• Excellent Photoshop skills;

• Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment;

• Knowledge in Toon boom Harmony

• Good problem solving skills

• Be driven and able to work effectively on an independent basis;

• Fluent in English;

• Must possess excellent time management skills with the utmost respect for deadlines;

• Be available on messaging systems and by emails during working hours;

• Willing to potentially relocate to Derry, Northern Ireland (UK)

• Solid experience in painting backgrounds for 2D Animation
